The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is one of
the oldest drama schools in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1861, it quickly
established itself as a centre of excellence in performance training. LAMDA has
provided theatre and the world of film and television with generation upon

INTERPRETATION 1. Create believable characters with a progression of mood and thought. 2. Create a detailed world around characters. 3. Create a relationship with other characters. Engage with the imaginary. TECHNIQUE 4. Use modulation, appropriate to character and situation. 5. Demonstrate clarity of diction appropriate to the character situation. 6. Maintain and sustain the thought and vocal power through to the end of a phrase. 7. Build character through the whole body. 8. Use the performance space appropriate to the character and situation. KNOWLEDGE 9. Describe character, situation and staging within their chosen material. |
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Junior phase pupils who have previous experience at theatre schools or drama clubs. Pupils who have no experience to date should first complete the S1 drama course. |

OUTCOMES
INTERPRETATION 1.The learner(s) will perform a scene from memory, which has been selected from a play written during a period on either Ancient Greek Theatre, Restoration Comedy, or Spanish Golden Age Theatre. The learners will present a brief introduction prior to the performance, of no more than 30 seconds, announcing the play title, author and character and outlining the context of the extract. TECHNIQUE 2. The learner(s) will perform a scene from memory, selected from a published play or screen play published post - 1980. The learner(s) embodiment of character and style will be the focus. KNOWLEDGE 3. The learner(s) will have read the full text of the plays which the scenes have been selected. They will describe character, subtext, style, context, motivation, structure, genre, and theme. |
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Senior phase pupils who have at least 4 years prior experience at theatre school, or have completed the drama Junior Phase course. |
